About
Marisa graduated from the University of Western Sydney with a Bachelor of Commerce in the year 2000. After recognising that there was a demand for accountants with an advanced accounting status, Marisa commenced the CPA Program and was advanced to CPA status in February 2003.
Shortly after this time Marisa decided that it would be beneficial to commence the registration process as a registered tax agent with the Tax Practitioners Board. This was granted to her in December 2004. In September 2005 Marisa was granted from CPA a Public Practice Certificate allowing her to charge for taxation services.
Marisa was employed from 1999 by a medium sized accounting practice providing taxation and accounting advice. The firm greatly assisted the enormous transition from pre-GST accounting to post GST accounting. It was during this time that Marisa recognised that small businesses were struggling to keep up with quarterly lodgment requirements that were newly imposed by the Australian Taxation Office.
It was a great learning curve for Marisa as she educated clients to a new way of thinking. They shifted away from the traditional “end of year shoe boxed receipts to the accountant” paradigm, to a method where businesses could see where they stood financially – sooner. They could immediately recognise when the business required attention by having their accounts prepared on a regular basis (either on a monthly or quarterly basis).
This is where the use of accounting software such as MYOB was, and is, useful in assisting clients to determine their GST, Payroll, Superannuation and other legal liabilities on a regular basis.
In 2006 Marisa commenced her own accounting and bookkeeping business to assist small businesses in meeting their GST obligations.
